At the gate

Questions that come up at the counter

Answers about measuring, about the airlines, and about where the money goes when you buy.

Does the frame count include the wheels?

It does, because the sizer at the gate is a box with the wheels inside it. Each bag is measured over the outside: wheels, top grip, side pocket. If a listing quotes the shell only, four or five centimetres are missing from the number.

Why are so many bags on the shelf 40 cm wide?

Because that is the shape the European low-cost carriers asked for: 55 × 40 × 20 cm. Thai carriers publish 56 × 36 × 23 cm. Four centimetres of width is the difference between the overhead bin and the baggage desk.

Which Thai carrier is the easiest on a cabin bag?

Bangkok Airways on the frame and Thai Airways on nothing at all. Bangkok Airways uses the same 56 × 36 × 23 cm box as the rest but allows 5 kg, half of what the others give. Thai Airways publishes the widest box of the Thai carriers at 56 × 45 × 25 cm but only one piece.

What is the allowance if I fly on a ticket with two segments?

The tighter of the two carriers applies, because the cabin bag has to board both aircraft. A Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur to Doha ticket is measured by the 36 cm frame of the first leg and the 37 cm frame of the second, so it is the 36 that decides.

Do you ship the bags yourself?

No. Nothing is stored or posted from this stall. Adding a bag to the basket makes a list in your browser; the order is placed on Amazon.sg, which handles stock, delivery to Thailand and payment.

Can I pay in baht?

Amazon.sg charges in Singapore dollars. The baht figure on each card is an estimate at 26.5 to the dollar, printed so the price is readable at a glance, not a quote.

What if the airline changes its frame after I buy?

Then the carrier page wins and this one is out of date until the next quarterly re-read. The board was checked in November 2026; between checks, confirm the number with the airline before you fly.

Is there a bag that clears every frame on the board?

For the overhead bin, yes: every bag under 36 cm wide and 23 cm deep clears all eighteen, which is why the bars on the small ones are full. The second-bag slot is a different story. Most carriers publish 40 × 30 × 10 cm for it, ten centimetres deep, and no bag sold as underseat is that thin, so the honest count there is one or two.
